Monstrous Gift

Sometime I am crippled by my ability to see into the future.
Paralyzed.
Some think this a blessing,
but if they saw the inevitable,
where would be the mystery in life?
What would be worth doing?

I see all possible outcomes of every action.
At once, this is a blessing. I know all the ways of life.
And it is a curse in that choices are hard to make.
To choose one option is to destroy all other options,
paths, or possibilities.
Can I destroy all that potential?

Aye, there’s the rub.
By choosing one universe, I destroy all others.
Of course, it is my universe.
I guess I can do with it what I please,
including putting it on hold for a while.
We’ll see.
Someday, I’ll absorb the world. HA!
or it will absorb me.

A Longing

A longing,

not anticipation,

but an ache holds me here

long after I should have retreated

to the safety of a metro ride

and a short walk home.

I know you won’t walk by,

but I wait for you

thinking that just this once

the universe will turn upside down

and what is reasonable will fall away

and be replaced by what is needed.

The Universe

As a youth I often ruminated on WHERE the universe is located.
I found that the whole thing, instead, is lodged somewhere inside my head.
You see, ALL my knowledge of time and tide,
rules and regulations by which I abide,
Religion and Philosophy,
have ALL been told or shown to me.

Stars Flicker

Stars flicker,

I shine,

we all die.

Ripples

Ripples,

waves in the fabric of all,

betrayed by a curtain in an open doorway,

and a gentle breeze.
